Feedback about my teaching is limited to student evaluations and as such, I look forward to reading them at the end of each long semester (Spring and Fall).
Evaluations are a great reflective tool and a good way to gauge whether my feelings about specific classes (ie., levels of rapport) were accurate.
Last week my Fall 2011 evaluations went on-line so I had a little look despite the fact that I'm leaving my workplace, and Korea, in less than two weeks.
My average class evaluation was 4.365 out of 5.0, which is a fairly typical average for me. The Campus (Dept) average for the same semester was 4.16.
To be honest I was hoping for a better score than that, as I felt I was far more easy-going in class and students seemed to enjoy themselves.
However, evaluations from students in my best class (nursing student - listening and speaking classes) were not entered on the my web site, which I'm would have elevated my average score a bit.
Again, my Freshman were less happy with me compared to my seniors (4.20 c.f to 4.53) and one Freshman class in particular gave me a very low evaluation (3.89/5.0).
I remember this class well. It consisted of only 16 students, mostly boys, who just wanted to piss around in class and speak in Korean all the time. They missed two weeks of classes due to national holidays and I really didn't build up any rapport with them at all.
I also received a few comments from students that I'd like to read, but I'm not sure I'll have the time to translate them before I go.
